Jumper’s knee, also known as patellar tendonitis, is an inflammatory condition of the patellar tendon. This is the joint that connects your kneecap (patella) to your shin bone (tibia). Jumper’s knee weakens your tendon and, if left untreated, can lead to tendon tears.
Overuse of your knee joint, such as frequent jumping on hard surfaces, causes jumper’s knee.
It’s typically a sports injury caused by leg muscle contraction and the force of impacting the ground. This puts strain on your tendon. Your tendon may become inflamed as a result of repeated stress.
